Yemen denies claims on requiring US support for receiving Gitmo detainees

SANA'A, April 26 (Saba) - Yemen denied on Sunday allegations reported by some media
outlets that it required $100 million for receiving the Yemeni detainees in
Guantanamo.

Foreign Minister Abu Baker al-Qirbi told Saba that what has been reported in the
media mass was feigned allegations and baseless.

The American government has proposed to present US $ 11 million as assistance for
the Yemeni government to establish a centre for rehabilitating the detainees and
merging them in the society, al-Qirbi said.

"Yemen has never requested for that or conditioned US assistance to build the center
in exchange for receiving the Yemeni detainees", the Minister said.

He affirmed that Yemen has called frequently and it still requests US to hand over
the Yemeni detainees in Guantanamo and other American prisons immediately.

He said that Yemen showed the American administration its readiness to receive all
the Yemeni detainees, adding "Yemeni government briefed the US that Yemeni detainees
will be treated in the light of the US-presented evidences and in accordance with
the Yemeni law".
