Concert of Sazgen Sazy ensemble
Almaty, April 27, 2009 (Khabar) - Sazgen Sazy folklore and ethnographic ensemble gives concert in Almaty. A voice of the steppe can be heard in the music performed by the Sazgen Sazy ensemble. Each member of the band can play 5 musical instruments and they all have their own style. The ensemble is known for its devotion and love of experiments. Its musicians can play classical music and jazz. Especially for their Almaty concert they presented the Spanish song Besame mucho.
Bagdat Tlegenov, director, Sazgen Sazy ensemble:
- All our musicians are professionals who graduated from the Almaty conservatory. They can play some famous music by Mozart and Beethoven. Today, we are going to surprise the audience with the Flight of the Bumblebee by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
Musicians say it was unusual to play classical music on Kazakh folk instruments. However, they managed to perform some music by Mozart and Beethoven on dombra and kabyz. A total of 32 concertos were performed that night.
Tamara Sekachova, visitor:
- We love Kazakh folk music. This is my second homeland. I have lived here for 35 years and I love Kazakh music and art. The music was great, all singers have wonderful voices and the costumes were fantastic.
The Sazgen Sazy folk and ethnographic ensemble was established in 1981 under the Republican Museum of Folk Music Instruments. Over its existence, the band musicians have reached great success and won a lot of international awards in Europe and the USA.
