PRESIDENT HOLDS UNSCHEDULED MEETING TO DISCUSS SWINE FLU
Jakarta, April 27 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono held an unscheduled limited cabinet meeting on Monday to discuss fears that the swine influenza epidemic would spread to Asia.
The meeting which was to start at 5 pm western Indonesia time at the Presidential office would formulate steps to be taken at the national level to overcome the possible spread of the swine influenza virus.
The meeting would be attended by Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, and Health Minister Siti Fadillah Supari.
Previously, the coordinating minister for people's welfare had held a coordination meeting to discuss the same problem.
The disease has already taken the lives of 100 people in Mexico. It has spread to the United States and the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning that the virus had the potential to spread fast.
