RI, SWEDEN AGREE TO INCREASE HUMAN RIGHTS COOPERATION

London, April 27 (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Sweden have agreed to continue taking concrete actions to boost their cooperation in the human rights field and remain committed to an ongoing capacity building program, an Indonesian official said.

First secretary at the Indonesian embassy in Stockholm, Dody Kusumonegoro, told ANTARA here on Monday the two countries also agreed to implement new programs agreed on at their second dialogue held in Stockholm recently.

The dialogue was led by Swedish human rights ambassador Jan Nordlandere and the director general of human rights of the Indonesian ministry of law and human rights, Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, and also attended by Indonesian ambassador to Sweden Linggawati Hakin and delegations from the two countries' governments and also non-governmental organizations.

Dody said during the meeting the two countries' delegations discussed cooperation programs produced during the first dialogue in Jakarta in April last year. They also exchanged views on latest human rights issues with regard to protecting and advancing human rights implementation.

The dialogue was followed by visits to the National Board of Institutional Care and a place for treating problematic youths in Uppsala around 60 kilometers north of Stockholm.

The results of the dialogue include the decision of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute to explore the possibility of extending assistance for the establishment of a post-graduate program on human rights in state University of Indonesia.

The program is open for international students and every year an Indonesian student particularly from government insitutions will be given scholarship to join it.

The two countries agreed to continue the third human rights dialogue in Indonesia in 2010, Dody said.***
