POLICE NAB THREE SOFTWARE PIRACY SUSPECTS
Jakarta, April 27 (ANTARA) - Police handling special types of crime arrested three people as computer software piracy suspects in the Penjaringan area, North Jakarta, over the weekend, a spokesman said.
The three suspects , identified by their initials EB, JK and AT, were caught in the house where the suspects usually pirate the computer software , Jakarta police public relations officer Adjunct Senior Commissioner Chryshnanda said here Monday.
"Police seized evidence in the form of a machine used in duplicating computer software," Chryshnanda said, adding that the evidence including nine duplicating machines with capacity 75 and 32, a CD writer, 14,500 CD pcs of software, 4,800 pcs of empty CD-R, 28 printers and 45 boxes containing trade labels.
Aside from that, police also confiscated three units of computer CPU, two units of keyboard, two monitors, five units of scanner, one paper cutter and a car used to carry their products, the police said.
"In addition to pirating the computer program which is now in demand, they also committed game program piracy," the police Chryshnana said, adding that the suspects admitted to have sold their products to retailers in Jakarta and surrounding areas.
The suspects would be sanctioned under article 72, sections 1 and 2 of Law no.19/2002 about copyrights.
