KPK URGED TO QUESTION FINANCE MINISTER SRI MULYANI
Jakarta, Apr 27 (ANTARA) - The Anti-Corruption Community Alliance (AMAK) held a rally here to demand the investigation of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani in a bribery case involving stiumulus funds for sea and air transportation facilities in eastern Indonesia.
The rally, staged outside the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) office on Monday, was participated in by hundreds of people.
"We ask the KPK not to discriminate. The investigation (into the bribery case) must be done on all the parties concerned, including Finance Minister Sri Mulyani," the AMAK coordinator, Toni Hasibuan, said.
He said House of Representatives (DPR) member Abdul Hadi Djamal, a suspect in the case the KPK had already arrested, had claimed he was jailed in connection with the House Budget Committee's decision to approve the government's proposal to increase the budget allocation for the 2009 fiscal stimulus funds for the projects from Rp10 trilion to Rp Rp12.2 trillion.
The proposal was discussed at a meeting between a few legislators including Djamal, and the finance ministry in a hotel in Jakarta last February 19. The finance ministry was represented at the meeting by the head of its fiscal policy panel, Anggito Abimanyu.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani was Abimanyu's immediate superior
"so if Djamal had spoken the truth, it is inconceivable that Mulyani did not know anything about it," he said.
He said the KPK must proactively and thoroughly investigate the case and refer it to a court of law "without discrimination," he said.
Asked whether the alliance had proof of Mulyani's involvement, Toni said it was the KPK's job to find the avidence.
Abimanyu was questioned over the case by the KPK last April 6. He told his interrogators the meeting on February 19 was not a violation of any rule because it did not discuss budget allocations for projects.
He said he had come to the meeting because he had been invited while he had consulted his superior at the finance minisry beforehand.
