PT TELKOM'S NET PROFIT DOWN 19.91 PERCENT
Jakarta, April 27 (ANTARA) - State-owned telecommunications company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) booked a net profit of only Rp10.30 trillion in 2008, down 19.91 percent from Rp12.86 trillion recorded in 2007.
The secretary of the state enterprise minister's office, Said Didu, said the profit put in a report distributed at a meeting between the office and House Commission VI here on Monday was not yet audited.
Telkom's president director Rinaldi Firmansyah earlier said the drop was the result of an exchange rate loss of Rp1 trillion.
He said the exchange rate loss was related to the company's debts in foreign currencies worth US$500 million and a rise in cost of imports.
The drop in the company's profit was also attributable to cost provision following the implementation of early-retirement program for around 1,156 employees.
Other state-owned companies whose profit had dropped in the year was PT Perusahaan Gas Negara. The company's profit in 2008 was recorded at Rp2.14 trillin, down from Rp1.57 trillion in 2007.
The company set a budget of expenditures in 2009 at around US$200 million, an increase compared to last year's US$150 million.
Half of the capital expenditures in 2008 or US$100 million will be used for the construction of distribution lines and increasing the capacity of its subsidiaries.
This year the company has projected its sales at 700 and 800 MMSCFD (million cubic feet per day), a rise from last year's 600 MMSCFD.
