KALLA TO ANNOUNCE COALITION WITH OTHER PARTIES MAY 3
Jakarta, April 28 (ANTARA) - Golkar Party Chairman Jusuf Kalla promised on Tuesday he would announce Golkar's coaltion partners on May 3 at the latest.
"The deadline for the announcement is May 3," Kalla who is also the incumbent vice president told the press here on Tuesday.
He said the Golkar Party was now in the process of establishing a coalition with other political parties, adding the party's Team 6 was now holding meetings with the Indonesian Democratic Party- Struggle (PDIP).
Asked whether Golkar would stick to its plan to name its own presidential candidate while the PDIP had already done so, Kalla said in negotiations there would always be bargaining.
"The mandate I received from Golkar's special national leadership meeting is like that. I was nominated as a presidential hopeful," he said.
He said Golkar had until now remained solid. The party remained solid in implementing the results of the special leadership meeting, he added.
Jusuf Kalla on Monday reported the implementation of his mandate to approach other parties for closer political cooperation to a special party leadership meeting here on Sunday night.
"Kalla reported the results of the political communication he has conducted with other parties," the party's secretary general, Sumarsono, said after the close of the meeting at the party's office in Slipi, Jakarta.
The meeting was attended by executives of all of the party's regional chapters.
Earlier, the party had issued a decision to confirm Kalla as the only figure in the party to run for president in addition to giving a mandate to him to conduct political communications with other political parties in a bid to build a coalition in the face of the upcoming presidential election.
Kalla met with Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) chairwoman Megawati soekarnoputri, Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party advisory board chairman Prabowo Subianto, People's Conscience (Hanura) Party leader Wiranto, and United Development Party (PPP) chairman Surya Dharma Ali.**1***
