Army increases surveillance capabilities along LoC

New Delhi, Apr 29 (PTI) With two major infiltration
bids along the Line of Control in the Indo-Pak border in the
last month, Indian Army Wednesday said it had "redployed" its
troops and increased surveillance capabilties to prevent the
terrorists' from crossing over into India.

"The Indian Army has done redeployment (of troops to
counter infiltration)...We have built in additional
surveillance capabilties to look across LoC... We have
deployed more technical equipment for surveillance even at
most difficult places keeping the LoC under active patrolling
and surveillance at all the times," Army Vice Chief Noble
Thamburaj told reporters here.

On the major infiltration bids by terrorists, he said,
"In the last fortnight or month, there have been two major
infiltration bids, which were partly successful but we in our
second tier were able to neutralise most of them."

The Army Vice Chief said the region may witness a
"defining moment" as Pakistan Army has started major
operations against the Taliban militants.

Thamburaj said the Army had reports about "more"
terrorists waiting to infiltrate into India.

"We have realised that there are some more terrorists
who are waiting in their launch pads at their training camps
to be launched (into India)," he said.

Thamburaj said infiltration bids have been "timed around"
Lok Sabha elections.

"This menace of infiltration has been timed around our
Lok sabha elections and it will be dealt with firmly," he
added.

Recently, Defence Minister A K Antony along with Army
Chief General Deepak Kapoor had visited forward posts along
the LoC to review the security situation there.

After the visit, the Army Chief yesterday stated that 54
militants had infiltrated into India till March 31 this year
and the pattern of deployment of armed forces was refined to
effectively tackle the infiltration menace. PTI AJD
