Remote-control helicopter at Parliament leads to panic
New Delhi, Apr 29 (PTI) A remote-controlled toy
helicopter Wednesday landed in Indian Parliament House complex
sending security establishment into panic looking for urgent
measures to provide a fool-proof security cover in the
sensitive area.
An urgent meeting of security agencies has been called
Thursday when such measures, including shooting down of flying
objects, would be discussed, official sources said.
Preliminary investigation carried out by the technical
wing of security agencies found that the toy helicopter had
been operated from a distance of 100 to 150 metres prompting
the police to carryout searches in neighbouring areas.
Elite Special Protection Group guarding the Prime
Minister also joined the investigations to study the
trajectory of the toy plane to ensure safety for their VVIP.
The Chinese-made helicopter available in capital's Sadar
Bazar for Rs 1200. The sleuths along with policemen questioned
some of the dealers.
The agencies were trying to ascertain whether it was
just an accident or a deliberate experiment by some
anti-national elements to test the security alertness of
the highly protected complex.
The agencies was also looking for members of the sports
club who fly these remote control devices as a hobby.
The Parliament House and the surrounding areas in the
radius of about three kilometers are a 'no-fly zone' since the
2001 Parliament attack but such objects could not be traced in
radars due to its low flight.
