Hankook Tire's Q1 profit plunges 91 pct

SEOUL, April 30 (Yonhap) -- Hankook Tire Co., South Korea's top tiremaker, said
Thursday its net profit plunged 90.9 percent in the first-quarter of this year,
hit by rising rubber prices and weaker demand.
Hankook Tire earned 2.8 billion won (US$2.1 million) in the January-March period,
compared with a profit of 3.1 billion won for the same period a year earlier, the
company said in a regulatory filing.
First-quarter operating profit also dived 48.8 percent from a year ago to 4.3
billion won. Sales rose 0.5 percent to 619.8 billion won.
