Hyundai Heavy Q1 net rises 13 pct on weaker won
SEOUL, April 30 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., the world's largest
shipbuilder, said Thursday that its first-quarter profit rose 13 percent mainly
due to a weaker won.
Its net profit reached 498.3 billion won (US$386 million), compared with a profit
of 442.3 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Sales climbed 26 percent to 5.49 trillion won, but operating income fell 26.3
percent to 471 billion won due to increased costs for materials such as steel
plates, it said.
Hyundai Heavy gained 2.7 percent to 230,000 won on the Seoul bourse.
