DUTCH NATIONAL ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO SMUGGLE IN ECSTASY

Tangerang, Banten Province, April 30 (ANTARA) - A Dutch national identified by his initial ME (30) was arrested by Indonesian customs and excise officers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, here, for trying to smuggle in 22,610 ecstasy pills from Germany.

ME was assisted by an associate , JS (43), who was a Jakarta resident, in the smuggling attempt, Eko Darmanto of the airport' customs and excise office, said here on Thursday.

The customs and excise office was currently conducting a investigation coordination with the National Anti Narcotic Agency (BNN) and the National Police, he said.

The ecstasy pills wrapped in 30 packages, were hidden in the inner lining of his suitcase which had been specially designed to have a space for hiding the illicit drugs, he said.

The Dutch citizen was arrested after disembarking from a Lufthansa plane with a flight number LH-778 from Frankfurt, Germany.

Meanwhile, Customs officers at Surabaya's Juanda international airport recently arrested a Chinese national for trying to bring in 8,790 ecstasy pills worth Rp2.89 billion into the country.

The arrest of Quiqing Lin (24) took place after she had disembarked from a Silk Air flight from Singapore, head of the Surabaya airport's customs narcotics unit, Argandiono, said last Saturday (April 25).
