ANTARA HANDS OVER BOOK ON SOEHARTO TO US EMBASSY
Jakarta, Apr 30 (ANTARA) - Antara News Agency handed two books on Indonesia's second president, Soeharto, it had published to the Library of the US Congress office at the US Embassy here on Thursday.
"The handover of these books marks the friendship between the US Embassy and Antara News Agency," Antara President Director Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf said when presenting the books to the library's field director William P. Tuchrello.
Mukhlis handed over 12 packages of one book titled "H.M. Soeharto In the News" and 13 copies of book titled "From Pak Harto For Indonesia" to the library for further distribution to 12 US embassies in different countries.
The publication of the books was part of tradition to appreciate state leaders, he said.
He said Antara would publish books on Indonesia's former presidents to be distributed among schools, universites and offices as part of efforts to create a knowledge-based community in the era of wisdom.
Tuchrello meanwhile said the books on Soeharto were of great value because the former Indonesian president was one of the very important figures at national, regional and international levels.
The period of transition from the New Order to the era of reforms was worth attending to because Indonesia was a big country capable of transforming itself into a newer system by upholding national wisdom, he said.
The book titled "From Pak Harto For Indonesia" tells among others about his experience, philosophy of leadership, career as a statesman, role as national and world figure, struggle during the colonial rule and concepts of economic development. ***
