GOVT EXPECTS CBM GAS PRODUCTION TO START IN 2011
Jakarta, Apr 30 (ANTARA) - The government has set itself a target of producing coal bed methane (CBM) gas starting in 2011, an Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry official said.
The CBM contractors which are conducting exploration are optimistic they can produce CBM gas soon, the ministry's director general of oil and gas Evita Legowo said here on Thursday.
"We are optimistic that we can produce CBM gas soon," she said.
The government has so far signed cooperation contracts with seven contractors to develop CBM gas.
The seven contractors are a consortium of PT Medco CBM Sekayu and South Sumatra Energy Inc to manage Sekayu Block in South Sumatra, PT Ridlatama Mining Utama to manage Bentian Besar Block in East Kalimantan, and PT Samantaka Mineral Prima to manage Indragiri Hulu Block in Riau.
The others are PT Indobararambai Gas Methan to manage Barito Banjar Block 1, PT Barito Basin Gas to manage Barito Banjar Block 2, a consortium of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Metana Kalimantan A Sangatta West CBM Inc to manage Sangatta Block and a consortium of Kutai West CBM Inc Newton Energy Capital Liimited to manage Kutai Block.
Edy Hermantoro, director of the ministry's upstream oil and gas business development said the government was expected to sign cooperation agreements with other contractors to manage four CBM blocks during the Indonesia Petroleum Association (IPA) Convention to be held on May 5, 2009. ***
