VEEP: GLOBAL CRISIS ELIMINATES `INTANGIBLE` ECONOMY

Jakarta, Apr 30 (ANTARA) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla said the global economic crisis has changed the world economy from an "invisible" into a concrete economy.

"Prior to the global economic crisis, the world economy was enlivened much by abstract speculation," Kalla said when dedicating an national footwear and leather products exhibition and a national consensus meeting of Indonesian National Footwear Producers Association at the Jakarta Fair grounds here on Thursday.

According to him, before the world economic crisis there were so many invisible speculations popularly called as intangible economy, most of which was only enjoyed by speculators reaping greater profits from the sharp difference between domestic prices of footwear and their prices in other countries.

A mysterious and invisible economy is an unreal one mostly influenced by market perceptions and enlivened by speculative action. The development of an economic mystery which is not based on fairness or hard work has caused a loss to Indonesian shoe makers.

As a result of the global economic crisis, Kalla said Indonesia started to enjoy the benefits following an increase in the export of footwear amidst declining action of speculators.

"This crisis has put the world economy on the right track especially from mysterious economy to a real one," he said.

"The people of Indonesia do not enjoy the results of their hard work, so do the US consumers following high prices in their country. Why, because between the US$15 and US$100 there are many speculators taking advantage of the price difference," he said.

Under these circumstances, Kalla added, Indonesian workers employed in footwear industries earn low wages, while consumers in other countries were compelled to buy the products at higher prices following the work of mysterious capitalists capitalizing on the price differences.

"That is what we know as free trade without any limitation. What we want is only a fair trade," Kalla said.

Because of the global economic crisis, the people had to uphold and develop real and concrete economy prioritizing on fairness.
