SILK AIR, SIA JOIN IN SERVING PENANG

Jakarta, Apr 30 (ANTARA)- A subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, Silk Air, will be joining SIA flying twice a day to Penang, Malaysia, as of June 2009.

SIA Executive Vice President for Marketing and the Regions Huang Cheng Eng said in Jakarta Thursday the two airline companies will offer 21 flights each week. SIA will be flying in the morning, while Silk Air in the afternoon and at night.

"Market liberalization between Singapore and Malaysia has enabled our affiliation, Silk Air, to join in offering three flights to Penang every day," he said.

He said Penang is a lively, culturally and traditionally rich Malaysian state and known for its culinary richness and popularity. Many multinational companies are operating there.

Silk Air hoped to serve business customers and travellers on the Singapore-Penang route starting on June 1, he said..

Customers holding a Singapore Airlines ticket may always fly with Silk Air and the reverse. The tickets that could be exchanged are available for all rates, except for special limited tariffs.***
