PRABOWO READS GRAND COALITION DECLARATION

Jakarta, May 1 (ANTARA) - Chief patron of the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) Prabowo Subianto read the declaration of the grand coalition of several political parties here on Friday.

The grand coalition's declaration was among others attended by several political party chairmen, Golkar Party chairman Jusuf Kalla, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) leader Megawati Soekarnoputri and chairman of the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) Wiranto.

The grand coalition consists of PDIP, Golkar, the United Development Party (PPP), Hanura, Gerindra, Peace Prosperous Party (PDS) and PKNU (National Ulemas Awakening Party).

But according to the statement of a PPP cadre, PPP has rejected to be included in the grand coalition.

The declaration among others contained the commitment of all coalition members to maintaining the integrity of the Unitary State of Indonesia and maintain the country's economic sovereignty for the welfare of the people.

It also included a commitment to developing political party institutions as a pillar of democracy.***
