PD APPRECIATES JK-WIRANTO PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE PAIR
Jakarta, May 1 (ANTARA) - The Democratic party (PD) appreciates the planned nomination of Golkar Party chairman Jusuf Kalla (JK) and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) leader Wiranto respectively as presidential and vice presidential candidates in the upcoming presidential race on July 8, 2009, a PD associate chairman said.
"If Kalla and Wiranto pair up, the Democratic Party will appreciate it and at the same time congratulate them," PD Chairman for Human Resources Development Andi Mallarangeng said here on Friday.
He said that the Democratic Party hoped that the upcoming presidential contest would run ethically.
"If it is true that JK and Wiranto have decided to pair up then we will congratulate them and hope that the presidential contest would run fairly," he said.
When asked on the relations between Kalla and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and if they have to compete in the presidential race, Andi said that they had agreed to compete fairly based on the rules of the game.
Yudhoyono, who is the incumbent Indonesian President and chief patron of the PD, has been declared by the Democratic Party as its presidential candidate but has yet to decide on his running mate. Kalla is the incumbent Vice President.
Andi said that if the competition was finished it was not impossible for the two to cooperate in developing this country.
"That is something normal in a democratic process," he added.***
