CYCLING- FOREIGN RACERS LEAD SEGMENT II OF TOUR DE SINGKARAK
Bukittinggi, Indonesia, May 1 (ANTARA) - Rafaa Chtioui of the Qatar bicycle racing team taking part in the international Tour de Singkarak open-road bicycle race here led the second segment in two hours, 16 minutes and 34 seconds.
The Qatar racer led the second segment, Padang - Bukittinggi 88.2 kms up hill road on Friday (May 1) in the event from April 30 to May 3, 2009.
A number of world-class bicycle racing teams from several countries including New Zealand, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Iran, Australia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Qatar took part in the event, covering a distance of 459 km offering a total cash prize of US$60,000.
The foreign racers and local participants compete in four segments, namely Padang-Bukittinggi (88.2 km), Bukittinggi-Sawahlunto (85.1 km), Sawahlunto-Danau Singkarak (90.2 km), and Lake Singkarak-lake Kembar - Lake Singkarak (188 km).
Rafaa Chtioui was followed by Amir Zargawi from Azad University Iran, and Budget Forklifs (BFL) of Australia. ***
