BIOFARMA SET TO DEVELOP ANTI-SWINE FLU VACCINE
Jakarta, May 1 (ANTARA) - State Enterprises Minister Sofyan Djalil said the state pharmaceutical company PT Biofarma was ready to develop an anti-swine flu virus (H1N1) vaccine.
"If the government told us to do so, we are ready," Sofyan Djalil said at his office here Friday.
He said matters relating to the development of vaccines are under the authority of the Ministry of Health.
"I still do not know exactly what the government is doing about the swine flu pandemic," he said.
However, he said, Biofarma was quite ready to develop the vaccine, especially that the company had an experience in producing anti-bird flu vaccines.
"Biofarma has produced flutami to curb the spread of bird flu. But I do not know about the latest development," he said.
The swine flu epidemic broke out in Mexico in mid-April 2009 and later spread to some other countries developing into a pandemic.
