Samsung sells over 10 mln LCD panels in April

SEOUL, May 3 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co. said Sunday it has sold over 10
million large-sized liquid crystal display (LCD) panels for the first time in
April on the back of the diversification of its sales channels.
"The record-breaking sales of large-sized LCD panels marks the first time since
last May we sold more than 9 million LCD panels," said a company official, who
declined to be identified.
Samsung Electronics predicts it may increase its global market share in the LCD
panel sector to over 25 percent thanks to the brisk sales.
The company has been operating its production lines at full capacity to meet the
growing demand for LCD panels and plans to start operating its eighth-generation
lines within the second quarter of the year, the official said.
Samsung Electronics, also the world's leading computer memory chipmaker, started
its LCD business in 1993 and has remained the top seller of LCD panels worldwide
since 2002.
