Washington, May 4 (PTI) More than 2,000 doctors of
Indian origin are expected to converge in Florida's Disney
Land next month to attend the 27th annual convention of the
American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI).

Combining vacation and entertainment with professional
goals and academic discussions, physicians of Indian origin
from across the US for five days beginning June 10, would
discuss on a wide range of issues including how to further
their goal of improving health care facilities in India.

The largest association of Indian doctors, with a
membership of more than 40,000, AAPI has been keen to help
India improve its health care facilities in the country, in
particular in the rural areas.

One of the key features of this year's AAPI
Convention, said Dr Ravi Jahagirdar, chair of the convention,
would be the display of robotic surgery. Indian physicians are
on top of the line in robotic surgeries in the US.

Organisers of the meet have set up a mini operating
room with a robot where guests can perform various mock
robotic surgeries by handling the robot.

"Children and adults will enjoy this opportunity to
play with the robots," Dr Jahagirdar said.

"The convention offers extensive academic
presentations, recognition of achievements and achievers, and
a forum for networking at the alumni and social levels," he
said.

Another highlight of the convention is the Women's
Forum where leading Indian-American women physicians identify
and discuss issues relating to improving women's health in
general.

Dr Deborah German, dean of the newly formed medical
school of the University of Central Florida and Dr Uma Tuli,
founder of Delhi School of Differently-abled Children and
founder of Indian Ab Olympic Games will be among the guests of
honor along with US-based Indian celebrities.

At the convention, the current AAPI president Dr Sanku
Rao will hand over the mantle after completing a successful
one year term to Dr Vinod Shah of Washington. PTI LKJ
