ACEH, S KOREAN PROVINCE OF JEJU TO COOPERATE
Banda Aceh, May 5 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian province of Aceh and the South Korean province of Jeju have made several cooperation agreements in the course of a visit by Aceh vice governor Muhammad Nazar and a delegation to that country recently.
"There are several agreements that we have signed with the provincial administration of Jeju. At the end of this month they would come to Aceh to observe cooperation prospects," Nazar said here on Tuesday.
The cooperation agreements that would be realized this year covered the establishment of a rubber plant and a bio-high technology industry to produce cosmetics, food and medicines using natural materials and a hospital in Lhokseumawe.
South Korea would provide US$5 million, and they had also asked the Aceh administration to provide 2,000 hectares of land for rubber plantations.
Nazar said they had also signed a cooperation agreement with the Korea Polytechnic on an exchange of experts and researchers and training that would be implemented in Aceh next month.
The agreement covers two years and could be extended if considered favorable to both sides, he said.
During the visit from April 27 to May 3, the 23-member Aceh delegation visited around 25 institutions.
Nazar said Aceh learned a lot about tourism from Jeju that had preserved its traditional customs and culture for tourism.
"We also agreed to cooperate with Jeju in research on pattern of tourism for implementation in Aceh. The agreement also covers two years," he said.
"Representatives from around 20 local and national companies including education institutes in South Korea would come to Aceh at the end of May," he said.
Nazar hoped the agreements could be materialized in the next two years.
