AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT: "WE WON'T INTERVENE IN NTB`S DEVELOPMENT"

Mataram, Indonesia, May 6 (ANTARA) - The Australia-West Nusatenggara Assistance for Regional Autonomy (ANTARA-AusAID) whose office is located in the West Nusatenggara (NTB) provincial administration building will not interfere in the province's development programs, a visiting Australian minister said.

"We won't in any way interfere in the process of development in NTB as the programs we are going to implement will be on the same track as the programs of the provincial government," Australian Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Bob McMullen said when inaugurating the ANTARA-AusAID office here on Wednesday.

The ANTARA-AusAID office was housed in the building of the NTB administration office and also used some parts of the administration building for carry out the Australia-Indonesia cooperation programs.

The dedication of the ANTARA-AusAID office conducted in the presence of the provincial governor, KH. M. Zainul Majdi and some officials of NTB provincial and district administration.

McMullan also said that the presence of an ANTARA-AusAID in NTB was often seen crucial after trial tests in the the past few years in view of its successes in implementing the cooperation programs between Australia and Indonesia.

The cooperation programs covered raising the capacity of administration at provincial and district level, increasing the income of the local people, and increasing access to good service for for the people.

In the meantime, NTB Governor KH. M. Zainul Majdi who attended the office's inaugural ceremony, warmly welcomed the program and made a commitment to support the operation of the ANTARA-AusAID office.

"The presence of the office is a manifestation of sustainable cooperation between Indonesia and Australia. We also hope that the ANTARA-AusAID programs will contribute to improvement of the human resources development index and poverty alleviation in the province," he said. ***
