Vietnam supports Nepal's peace and development process
New York (VNA) - Vietnam joins the commitment by the international
community to support the peace and development process on which the Nepalese people an Government have embarked.
Ambassador Bui The Giang, Vietnamese Deputy Representative to the UN
Security Council, made the statement in New York on May 5 at a council
private debate on the situation in Nepal .
The diplomat acknowledged the overall relatively calm and stable security
situation as well as positive political developments during the peace
process in Nepal , particularly those related to the drafting of the
Constitution, the operation of the Special Committee and the establishment
of the Technical Committee.
"We call upon all political parties to exercise restraints and give top
priority to stability by promoting national unity and resuming dialogues in
the spirit of compromise to expedite the peace process," he said.
He also expressed his hope that all parties in the Government of Nepal
will continue working together for the common good of the whole nation.
Underlining the magnificent role played by the UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN)
in the country's peace process, Ambassador Giang commended the Mission
for its efforts in the field of arms monitoring and supporting the work of
the Special and Technical Committees in the past reporting period.
"We reaffirm our support for the role of the United Nations in
coordinating international development assistance to Nepal ," he said in
conclusion.
At the debate, the UNSC approved a Presidential Statement on the current
political crisis in Nepal.-Enditem
