Six S. Koreans quarantined in Hong Kong for Influenza A
HONG KONG, May 6 (Yonhap) -- Six South Korean nationals who may have contracted the Influenza A virus are being held in a Hong Kong hotel, diplomatic sources said Wednesday.
The South Korean consulate said the six are being held on the 12th floor of the
Metropark Hotel.
It said the number rose by one when local health authorities asked the daughter
of a couple to join them at the hotel. The father was identified only by the
surname of Kim.
"The authorities called in the daughter after they discovered that she spent time
with her parents," the source said. He added that tests were conducted on the
daughter to see if she had contracted the virus.
Besides the Kim family, three other Koreans have been held for the past week at
the hotel for observation. In addition, two South Korean travelers with flu
symptoms are being held in the Philippines.
The World Health Organization, meanwhile, said that there were 1,516 confirmed
cases of the influenza in 22 countries across the globe, with 30 deaths caused by
the virus.
Twenty-nine deaths were in Mexico, and one was reported in the United States.
The U.N. organization said that of the confirmed cases, there were 822 in Mexico,
403 in the U.S., and two in South Korea.
