OSCE MINSK GROUP CO-CHAIRS MAKE JOINT STATEMENT

Prague, 7 May (AzerTAc). Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group have given a press conference following a meeting between Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Serge Sargsyan of Armenia. The Co-Chars first made media statements.
MATTHEW BRYZA:
Good afternoon. Thank you for coming here. On behalf of the co-chairs I welcome you to the US ambassador`s residence here in Prague and I`m pleased to say that presidents Aliyev and Sargsyan had a constructive discussion. They were able, I think, in principle, to reduce their differences on the basic principles and generally agree on the basic ideas that they came here to discuss. We had some specific ideas and elements on basic principles. The presidents seem to agree on a basic approach. It's now up to us to work actively with the foreign ministers as requested by both presidents to work through the details and finalize these concepts that were discussed today. That's a positive sign. Today showed us that we are making serious progress. …And in the coming weeks we plan to work together with foreign ministers again to finalize the details and these key remaining concepts within the basic principles. Thank you.
YURI MERZLYAKOV:
Thank you very much. I think there is no need to add something to what Mr. Bryza have said. I can only say that we have reached a principal agreement to hold the next meeting in early June in Saint Petersburg. We will try to arrange the meeting... And now, as my colleague Mr. Bryza said, we will hold meetings with the foreign ministers. And the co-chairs will also, probably, make a visit to the region to discuss preparations for the meeting in Saint Petersburg. Thank you.
BERNARD FASSIER:
As just informed my American and Russian colleagues, we have huge work in the coming days and weeks, because we have the intention to be in position to propose to the presidents, as said Yuri Nikolayevich, to meet early in June in Saint Petersburg. On the basis of what we heard today from both presidents, we have expectations to be in a position to confirm some progress during the next weeks and months. As you know we are preparing a breakthrough, we are in position to identify what could be the work that we are not yet through. So we need to progress and we are expecting to realize that in the following weeks. Thank you.
