Yemen, EU discuss fighting terror cooperation



SANA'A, May 07 (Saba)- Minister of Interior Mutahar al-Masri
discussed with European Union's delegation headed by
counter-terrorism coordination Gilles de Kerchove on Thursday
security cooperation between Yemen and EU, especially fighting
terrorism.

Al-Masri indicted that Yemen has suffered from terrorism for years
prior to September 11. He affirmed that the world's attention has
not focused on the terror only after September 11and after carrying
out terrorist attacks against some European embassies in a number of
countries.

He pointed out that his ministry has created specialized security
institutions through which the ministry has been able to achieve
touchable security achievements in fighting terror.

The minister said many terrorists have been killed others arrested
and some are tried despite limited capabilities. He added that
cooperation between Yemen, the EU and the United Sates has
contributed in deep rooting security and stability in the country
and realized fruitful security cooperation.

For his part, the EU official affirmed desire of the union in
having prolonged partnership with Yemen to cover different fields of
cooperation, security, economic and others. He pointed out that
European Union suffers now from terrorist attacks by cells inside
the union.

He voiced the EU's readiness to support development projects in
Yemen as well as providing necessity assistances to security forces.
