KOGAS Q1 net falls 47 pct

SEOUL, May 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's state-run Korea Gas Corp. (KOGAS) said
Friday its first-quarter net profit dropped 47 percent due to increased fuel
costs.
Net income amounted to 209.4 billion won (US$167 million) in the January-March
period, compared with 393.2 billion won a year earlier, Korea Gas said in a
regulatory filing.
Sales, however, rose 17.6 percent on-year to 7.73 trillion won over the cited
period, while operating profit fell 18 percent to 482 billion won.
Shares of Korea Gas rose 2.25 percent to 45,500 won as of 10:56 a.m. on the Seoul
bourse.
