RI, NAMIBIA TO HOLD MINISTERIAL MEETING IN JAKARTA

Jakarta, May 8 (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Namibia will hold a two-day joint commission ministerial meeting here on May 11-12, 2009.

"Three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) will be signed at the RI-Namibian ministerial meeting," Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said here on Friday.

He said the MoUs which would be signed at the meeting were on the formation of the joint commission, cooperation in the agricultural sector, and cooperation between Gajah Mada University (UGM) and the University of Namibia (UNAM).

According to Faizasyah, the ministerial joint commission meeting between the two countries was the first held in Indonesia.

The Namibian delegation to the joint commission meeting, led by Foreign Minister Marco Hausiku, would also be representing Namibia at the World Ocean Conference (WOC) to be held in Manado, North Sulawesi, May 11-14, 2009.

The Namibian delegation would also discuss matters relating to fisheries with Indonesian Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi on the sidelines of WOC.

Indonesia and Namibia have good cooperative relations in various fields as Indonesia was among the first countries in the world that supported Namibia's independence in 1990.

Two lecturers from Gajah Mada University (UGM)'s agricultural faculty visited Namibia in 2008 under sponsorship of the Indonesian Embassy in Windhoek as part of UGM-UNAM cooperation in the agricultural sector.***
