Pak Army still not convinced about India: McCain

Washington, May 8 (PTI) Top Republican Senator John
McCain believes that the Pakistani Army is still not convinced
that the most serious threat to their nation now comes from
within and not India.

"I believe their military is still not convinced that
their greatest enemy is from within and not India. Most of
their military still want to combat or be prepared for a war
with India," McCain. The Senator from Arizona and who fought
the last presidential election against Barack Obama, told Fox
News in an interview.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating security
situation in Pakistan, McCain however believed that the
Taliban would not be able to take over the country.

"I don't believe that the Taliban's going to take over,
but I do believe that we have to do everything in our power to
make sure their nuclear inventory is secure and help them in
any possible way," McCain said.

In the last few weeks, US lawmakers and officials have
expressed their concern over the safety of the Pak nuclear
weapons and have apprehended the possibility of the Taliban
getting control over it in case of the collapse of the
government.

"I would give them some immediate, direct aid. They would
have to be convinced we're there for the long term, not like
before when we left the whole area, as you know. So there's a
lot of work to be done," he said.

"These are difficult times, but I don't think that the
Government of Pakistan is on the verge of collapse, as some
have said they are," he argued. PTI
