ACTION OF REJECTING GOLD MINERS IN BOMBANA

Kendari, May 8 (ANTARA) - Hundreds of protesters grouped in the Bombana People's United Front have been rejecting the presence of a gold investor in Bombana regency, Southeast Sulawesi, in the last two weeks.

In Kendari on Friday the protesters held orations and unfurled banners, some 20 meters long, along Kendari's main roads.

Anticipating serious traffic jams, traffic police personnel rerouted traffic to alternative roads.

Earlier, the demonstrators have also expressed their aspirations at Southeast Sulawesi Governor Nur Alam's office, and the regional legislative assembly (DPRD) building.

Field action coordinator Salim Alisman asked the provincial administration to seriously respond to the Bombana gold investor problem because their presence in the region has caused restlessness on the part of the local population.

"If the local government cannot seek a solution to the problem, we will have to refer the issue to the central government," Salim said.

Previously Governor Nur Alam promised to summon the Bambana Regent to find a solution to gold mine management, but still no concrete results.

Orator Ansar said that the gold mine potential in Bombana regency can cause disaster to the local population, unless the government deals with it seriously.

"Today, mutual threats were made, and even attacks causing death. This is a real threat to the local population," he said.
