PDI-P YET TO ANNOUNCE VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

Jakarta, May 8 (ANTARA)- The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has yet to announce its vice presidential candidate to pair with Megawati Soekarnoputri as the party's presidential hopeful to compete in July 8 presidential race.

"PDI-P hasn't yet announced its vice presidential candidate," the party's secretary general Pramono Anung said here Friday after Golkar party chairman Jusuf Kalla, the People's Conscience (Hanura) Party's chairman, Wiranto, and PDI-P's general chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri met at her residence at Teuku Umar Street here Friday.

The reason PDI-P has not announced its vice presidential hopeful is because the general election commission (KPU) has yet to open registration of presidential and vice presidential candidates and the KPU was also still preparing the recapitulation of the recent legislative election vote count, Anung said.

Anung said PDI-P was still discussing political parties coalition in a bid to make Indonesian's future more advanced.

The coalition talks were still going on, and aimed at making inter political communication to run well.

On Thursday (May 7), a number of figures in the PDIP elite held a special meeting here to discuss political steps in preparation for the July 8, 2009 presidential race.

PDIP's leader Megawati Soekarnoputri presided over the meeting at her residence at Teuku Umar Street, here, which was also attended by the party's secretary general, Pramono Anung.

There was no official information on whether the party would declare its vice presidential candidate as a result of Thursday's meeting.

In the meantime, Golkar Party presidential hopeful Jusuf Kalla has teamed up with Hanura Party leader Wiranto to compete in the July 8, 2009 presidential race. ***1***
