PALAPA RING PROJECT STILL TO BE LAUNCHED IN 2009
Jakarta, May 8 (ANTARA) - Minister of Communications and Information Mohammad Nuh said the government's strategic Palapa Ring project would still be launched this year.
"Inspite of dynamic activities of members of thew project's consortium, they were still determined to start the project this year," M. Nuh said in Jakarta on Friday.
He said no decision has yet been taken to increase the consortium's members to cover the investment shortage.
The minister, meanwhile said that the four consortium members have expressed their readiness to make an advance payment for the investment fund in case another member quits the consortium.
The government said it is awaiting the result of a study by the Palapa Ring consortium on the implementation of the project which is still facing a problem posed by the depreciation of the investment.
