PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS VICTORY DAY CEREMONY IN BAKU

Baku, 9 May (AzerTAc). President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today attended a solemn ceremony to mark the 64th anniversary of the victory over fascism in the World War II.
The Head of State was warmly welcomed by war veterans and other representatives of the public in front of the monument to Major-General Hazi Aslanov, twice Hero of the Soviet Union.
The President greeted the veterans and congratulated them on the Victory Day. He was curuious about their problems and needs.
The veterans said they would never forget national leader Heydar Aliyev`s attention and care for them. They also thanked President Ilham Aliyev and said they would always support him.
The President also sincerely greeted family members and relatives of General Hazi Aslanov and congratulated them on the victory day
The Head of State laid a wreath at the monument to Major-General Hazi Aslanov and remembered the sons of Azerbaijan, who heroically fought and died during the War.
The President together with veterans posed for photographs.
To the accompaniment of the military march, he inspected the guard of honor.
Azerbaijan played a great role in the USSR`s victory over fascism sending 600,000 to the war, with about half of them died in battles. Over 130 citizens of Azerbaijan were given a title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and over 170,000 were awarded various orders and medals.

Present at the event were Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Milli Majlis Speaker Ogtay Asadov, Chief of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev and other officials.
