UPA will give priority to Cauvery issue, if voted to power: PM

Chennai, May 9 (PTI) Describing Cauvery water row among
the southern states as sensitive, Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh today said that a permanent solution has to be found out
to the vexed issue.

"Cauvery is a sensitive issue. Efforts have been made (to
resolve the dispute)," he said at a press conference here in
the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The Prime Minister said a permanent solution has to be
found out to the problem, which involves Tamil Nadu,
Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.

"If we come back to power, we will give it a priority,"
he said.

The sharing of Cauvery water among the riparian states
remains a ticklish issue during the summer months with Tamil
Nadu demanding its share of water from Karnataka. PTI
