BAKU HOSTS AZERBAIJAN-GREECE BUSINESS FORUM

Baku, May 13 (AzerTAc). The Azerbaijani-Greece business forum was held Tuesday here at the “Excelsior” Hotel. The co-organizers of the forum were Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Economic development, Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) and Greece Embassy to Azerbaijan.
The Greek delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis attended the event. Along with the top officials the delegation included as well as heads of nearly 35 companies, specializing in production and selling of building machines and equipment, manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, telecommunication and other areas.
The forum brought together as well as about 100 Azerbaijani businessmen.
Addressing the event, Head of Azerbaijan`s Administration of Ministry of Economic Development Samir Veliyev briefed the participants about the reforms carried out in the country, projects implemented in various fields, events aimed at developing the entrepreneurship in the country and successes the country achieved in past years.
He underlined that in terms of foreign investment per head of the population Azerbaijan is at the forefront of the former Soviet republics and is also ahead of some eastern European states.
“In last 5 years, the increase in GDP observed by 2,6, in industrial production by 2,5, in population income by 4 and the level of poverty is decreased by 3. Improvement of the business sphere in the country and conducting the favorable condition for the local and foreign investors is a vivid figure of the successful economic policy of the country. Azerbaijan is almost the world`s only country which slightly suffered from the global economic crisis,” he added.
Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis highly praised the economic cooperation between the two countries pointing at the roles of businessmen in strengthening of the cooperation.
In his turn, AZPROMO president, Rahim Huseynov also spoke about the economic and investment environment in Azerbaijan and prospects and opportunities created in the country for the foreign businessmen. Deputy Chairman of SEV Board of Directors Atanase Lavidas reported on the “Role of Greece in Southeastern Europe”.
Under the forum, AZPROMO and SEV signed a memorandum of understanding. The document envisages developing of investment environment and opportunities, conducting of meetings, business forums, seminars and trainings between the two countries businessmen.
