AZERI PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION VISITS LITHUANIA
Baku, 16 May (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Ogtay Asadov paid an official visit to Lithuania on Thursday.
On Friday, the delegation met with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus to discuss the current state of and prospects for relations between the two countries.
President Valdas Adamkus praised Azerbaijani `s internal and external policy, the country`s steps towards ensuring energy security of Europe.
The delegation also met with Prime Minister of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius, who stressed the importance of reciprocal visits in terms of expanding bilateral cooperation.
Ogtay Asadov spoke of the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania both bilaterally and within international organizations.
They also discussed economic and cultural relations, ensuring Europe`s energy security, the role of parliaments in development of bilateral ties and other issues.
As part of the visit, the delegation also met with Speaker of Lithuania`s parliament (Seimas) Arunas Valinskas to discuss prospects for inter-parliamentary ties, activities of friendship groups functioning in the two countries` legislative bodies, expansion of mutual cooperation within international organizations including parliamentary assemblies and other issues.
The talks also revolved around the consequences of Armenia`s aggression policy against Azerbaijan and settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the basis of the principles of international law.
