VP inaugurates national immunization campaign against Polio

ADEN, May 17 (Saba) - Vice President Abdu Rabo Mansour Hadi inaugurated here on
Sunday in Ba Sohaib Military Hospital the National Preventive Refreshing Vaccination
Campaign against Polio.

The campaign aims at immunizing 4,181,729 children under age of five in 2,528,668
houses in the capital Sana'a and all governorates in the country.

In his statement to the media outlet, Hadi thanked the efforts exerted by Ministry
of Public Health and Population. He also appreciated the WHO and UNICEF supports for
the health sector in the country, indicating that such support was resulted in
declaring that Yemen is officially free from the Polio virus.

Vice President affirmed that uprooting this disease from Yemen is a great
achievement for our country and should be preserved.

Hadi called on all officials of the local authorities in the districts for
cooperating with campaign's organizers to achieve its desired goals and to ensure
immunizing all targeted children.

For his part, WHO's representative in Yemen Gholam Rabani hailed Yemen's efforts in
combating Polio, highlighting that Yemen has carried out more than ten comprehensive
immunization campaigns to wipe out this fatal disease from Yemen.

Yemen did not registered any case of Polio for more than three years, exactly from
February 2006, the WHO's official said, pointing out that Yemen was granted the
certificate of free from Polio virus by impartial committee according to the WHO's
measures.
