Yemen, WB discuss agriculture development cooperation
SANA'A May 17 (Saba) - Yemen and World Bank discussed on Sunday issues relating to
agricultural projects need to be supported by WB, and future cooperation between
Yemen and the bank.
Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mansour al-Hawshabi reviewed with WB
Executive Director Mirza Hasan challenges facing the agriculture development in
Yemen and WB's role to resolve those problems and constraints.
During the meeting, both sides affirmed the importance of creating a mechanism of
stimulating the role of the private sector and investors, both local and foreign
investments, to establish manufacturing industries and benefit from the available
investment opportunities in the agricultural field and facilities provided for the
investors in the light of the Yemeni law.
The minister praised the role of WB to support agricultural development in Yemen,
saying WB plays a key role for developing agriculture in Yemen and expressed his
hope to continue support for important sector to strengthen its role in providing
food security.
For his part, WB Executive Director affirmed WB's keenness to support Yemeni efforts
in agricultural development, highlighting that during the coming stage the focus
will be to support the infrastructure for the agriculture sector particularly
support for marketing and promotion of agricultural exports.
