Shura Chairman praises royal keenness on fostering peace, tolerance

Manama, Nov. 15 (BNA): Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh has affirmed the great importance accorded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to promoting coexistence and tolerance between religions, doctrines, cultures and people. In a statement marking the International Day for Tolerance, which is observed on November 16, the Shura Council Chairman underlined the kingdom’s pioneering role in promoting peace, security and stability. He also lauded the efforts of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in mapping out plans to achieve the aspirations of HM the King and motivate all public and private institutions to foster tolerance. The Shura Council Chairman underlined the kingdom’s keenness on promoting tolerance and coexistence through a set of legislation and laws related to human rights. He cited the steps taken by Bahrain in this respect, including working out the executive mechanisms for the correction centres and open prisons programme, the alternative punishment system, and the Corrective Justice Law for Children. The Shura Council Chairman asserted that the Kingdom of Bahrain has become a distinguished model to emulate in respecting cultures and promoting tolerance and moderation, in light of continued support of the legislative and executive branches. He praised coexistence and tolerance characterizing the Bahraini society as part of a civilizational and humanitarian heritage praised by the international community.
