Taihan Electric unit, Japan`s Sojitz form joint venture

SEOUL, May 21 (Yonhap) -- A unit of Taihan Electric Wire Co., South Korea's
second-largest wire maker, said Thursday it has set up a joint venture with
Sojitz Corp. of Japan to develop and sell solar panel plants here.
Taihan Techren, the unit of Taihan Electric Wire, will take a 66 percent stake in
the venture with Sojitz, a Japanese trading firm, holding the remaining 34
percent.
Sojitz bought the stake for 5.2 billion won (US$4.1 million), the Korean company
said in a statement.
"With Sojitz becoming a partner, we will be able to increase competitiveness in
the solar-plant market," said an official at Taihan Techren in the statement.
