Wild Elephant Herd Spotted At Village, Sugar Cane Field In Thailand

BANGKOK, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- A herd of about 60 wild elephants were reported to have left a forest in Chachoengsao province, east of Bangkok, to hunt for food in neighbouring province Prachin Buri. The Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary in Chachoengsao warned villagers in Prachin Buri to be cautious of a wandering elephants. Bangkok Post reported that some 40 elephants were sighted at a village while another 20 were sighted near a sugar cane field at Kabin Buri district in Prachin Buri. Meanwhile, two women were reported injured after their pickup truck slammed into an elephant in Kanchanaburi province on Sunday. However, the driver escaped injury in the incident on Road No 3199, near a village in Wang Dong Muang District of Kanchanburi at 7.40 am (local time). Chief of the Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary, Paitoon Indharabut said the two women were rushed to hospital for treatment. -- BERNAMA
