AZERI ICT MINISTER ATTENDS OPENING CEREMONY OF WSIS FORUM 2009 IN GENEVA
Baku, May 23 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov has attended the opening ceremony of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Addressing the event, Abbasov said his country had become a leading country in ICT in the region. He also briefed the participants on the Transnational-Eurasian Information Super Highway project.
As part of the visit, Ali Abbasov met with Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Director of ITU Radio-communication Bureau, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, Director General of the Universal Postal Union and Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
The talks focused on the importance of the Transnational-Eurasian Information Super Highway project for both Azerbaijan and the region, achievements gained in postal sector in the country and other issues.
The forum participants praised the project on “Education center for disadvantaged persons” being carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies.
