Speaker meets with UN General Assembly President

Manama, Jan. 24 (BNA): Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal met with Abdulla Shahid President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
She congratulated him on assuming the presidency of the current session of the UN’s General Assembly, stressing that Bahrain has always been keen to support UN’s efforts.
The speaker affirmed that Bahrain supports efforts for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and in the world, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Zainal referred to the government’s initiatives, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in promoting the values of tolerance, coexistence and respect for pluralism, and the importance of integrating international stances to combat terrorism, violence and extremism.
She noted that Bahrain’s approach makes human rights a main priority, highlighting the steps taken by the Kingdom in implementing its reform approach, such as expanding the application of alternative sanctions, providing rehabilitation programs and the open prisons initiative.
The speaker stressed the importance of HM the King’s statement during the UN’s General Assembly session two years ago, which calls the importance of cooperation to confront all challenges. Most importantly the repercussions of the pandemic.
Zainal affirmed Bahrain’s condemnation on the terrorist attacks of the Houthi militia targeting civilians, infrastructure and vital facilities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, considering these attacks as war crimes, and a flagrant violation of all international laws.
The UN’s General Assembly president hailed Bahrain's efforts internationally, and the opportunities it offers to achieve sustainable development goals, by supporting international trends. Such as such the protection of human rights, the fight against terrorism and the support of efforts for peace, security and stability in the region and the world.
