BACA President expresses pride in French medal awarded to Bahraini artist

Manama, Jan. 27 (BNA): The French Republic has awarded Bahraini artist, Abdulrahim Sharif the Chevalier De l’Ordre Des Arts et Des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters), which is one of the most prestigious insignia conferred upon writers and artists in recognition of their significant contributions to the arts and literature. The honouring ceremony was held here yesterday by the French Embassy, in the presence of the President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, and a limited number of guests due to the spread of the novel Coronavirus pandemic. During the event, French Ambassador to Bahrain, Jérôme Cauchard, decorated artist Sharif with the medal of the Order. Shaikha Mai expressed pride in artist Abdulrahim Sharif’s artistic creativity, locally and internationally, praising the richness of his artistic experience which he began in France and consolidated in Bahrain. She wished him further success. She expressed thanks to the French Republic, represented by Ambassador Cauchard, for its interest in the cultural movement, and support for arts and artists across the world. The French Order of Arts and Letters was established on 2 May 1957 by the Minister of Culture. Its purpose is the recognition of significant contributions to the arts, literature, or the propagation of these fields.
