IGNORE SMS ON GATHERING OF LTTE SUPPORTERS - POLICE

SHAH ALAM (Malaysia), May 23 (Bernama) -- The police have advised the people
to ignore an SMS inviting them for a gathering at Batu Caves in the state of
Selangor on Sunday by supporters of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)
to express dissatisfaction over Sri Lanka's war with the LTTE.

Selangor deputy police chief Jamshah Mustapa said no permit had been issued
for the gathering.

"I advice the people to ignore the SMS. If the gathering is for a religious
purpose or for prayers, it is alright but not for an illegal gathering," he told
reporters after launching a programme on prevention of crime among Indian youths
in Selangor, here.

An SMS had been circulated stating that LTTE supporters would gather at Batu
Caves Sunday.

Jamshah said the police had no intention, as of now, to close or block any
road leading to Batu Caves, a sacred place for Hindus in Malaysia.
