Seoul stocks start up on U.S. rallies
SEOUL, May 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened 1.28 percent higher
Wednesday as investor sentiment got a boost from overnight U.S. rallies, analysts
said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 17.55 points to
1,389.59 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Wall Street rallied on Tuesday after consumer sentiment in May rose to the
highest level since September. The Down Jones industrial average rose 2.37
percent and the tech-laced Nasdaq surged 3.45 percent.
Most local large-cap shares traded in positive territory, with financial shares
leading the overall rally.
The local currency was trading at 1,259.75 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 3.25 won from Tuesday's close.
