BAKU HOSTS COE EPAS MEETING

Baku, May 27 (AzerTAc). Under the mutual agreement of the Council of Europe and Azerbaijan Ministry of Youth and Sport a meeting of the Consultative Committee and Executive Committee of the Council of Europe`s Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) took place here today.
Speaking to the event, Azerbaijan`s Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Ismayil Ismayilov said the government attaches great importance to development of sports in the country.
He spoke of work done for development of sport infrastructure in the country, adding “today there are 21 sports complexes in Azerbaijan”.
In 2007, Council of Europe adopted resolution creating the EPAS, in order to give new momentum to pan-European sports cooperation and address the current challenges facing sport in Europe.
More than 31 European countries, including Azerbaijan are the members of the EPAS, which provides a platform for intergovernmental sports cooperation between the public authorities of EPAS member states, in addition to encouraging dialogue between public authorities, sports federations and NGOs, with the aim of making sport healthier, fairer and better governed.
